DIY Aromatherapy Solutions for health & natural beauty

Been planning to put together a post on some of my aromatherapy recipes for long now.  But there is so much to cover, I’d rather do it in parts. Here’s the first….

Aromatherapy is a widely known term at the moment.

Simply put, it is the practice of using the natural oils extracted from flowers, bark, stems, leaves, roots or other parts of a plant to enhance psychological and physical well-being.

The inhaled aroma from these “essential” oils is widely believed to stimulate brain function. Essential oils* can also be absorbed through the skin, where they travel through the bloodstream and can promote whole-body healing.
Though all these facts are well known, what most people don’t know are the combinations that make these oils effective on a person. And this is the most important part of it all.
I have put together a few ‘secrets’ as i like to call them. Do try them on yourself or family members and see the difference they make.  Very soon, you will want to give up any form of market bought beauty remedies 🙂
* Essential Oils are pure in form, medicinal and strong smelling. DO NOT mistake them for perfume oils that are cosmetic in nature and used only for burning purposes.
Acne:
On a regular basis, smell or burn seperately oils of Bergamot, Immortelle, Lavender, Rosemary or Peppermint. Topically you can mix 2-3 drops of tea tree  and lavender oils into your moisturizer or cream and use it on a clean face, preferably before bedtime.
General Detox ( after a hard night out ): smell Fennel oil or apply a drop or two to pulse areas.
Antidepressants: Basil, Jasmine, Patchouli, Rose, Verbana, Grapefruit, Sandal wood Oil with Neroli being the best pick.
Appetite ( To Increase) : Black Pepper, Ginger, Grapefruit, Sage, Garlic
Appetite ( To Decrease): Bergamot, Lavender & Onion Oil ( reduces hunger considerably)
Cephalic Oils: These are oils that clear your mind and stimulate mental processes. Use generous quantity of Basil or Rosemary Oils in burners or on a napkin to smell from time to time.
Deodorants: ( Oils that will kill odour) Bergamot, Coriander, Eucalyptus, Rosewood, Pine, clary Sage, Lemongrass.
To make your own environmentally friendly room freshner mix water + few drops of any of the above essential oil of your choice in a spray bottle and spray all over your home, furniture, curtains, carpets etc. Repeat it whenever you feel like it. You room will stay fresh and you will have used no gasses or chemicals for the effect.:)
Fleas: If you have a pet, mix a few drops of eucalyptus, lavender, tea tree or geranium oils with water . Mix well in a spray bottle and spray your pooches with it. It will repel fleas and ticks.
Sleep Aid: Chamomile, Lavender, Marjoram, Neroli. Spray your bed or rub your pilow wit a few drops of these wonders. You will sleep like a baby.
Menstrual Cramps: Inhale or burn oils of Bergamot, Jasmine, Peppermint, Rose, Rosemary or Cypress. Burn some candles, play some music and relax while you inhale the aromas.
PMS: Clary Sage, Patchouli, Tangerine, Jasmine. Bye Bye to moodiness.
Mental Fatigue: Basil, Rosemary, Verbena, Lemongrass. Inhaling regularly will dismiss loss of concentration or poor memory.
So this is it for now… I will be focusing on skin and hair care with essential oils in the next part..
